Datasets
Three sets made by the same generator with the same mix, but different items: one to practise on, and two hidden ones that score submissions.
4×4 easy 5 · 6×6 hard 10 · 9×9 medium 10 · 9×9 hard 10 · 12×12 medium 14 · 12×12 hard 7 · 16×16 easy 2 · 16×16 medium 5 · 16×16 hard 5
With answers, for trying your prompt before you submit: in the playground, with the model that scores submissions, or on your own API key. It's never used for scoring.
6×6 hard 8 · 9×9 medium 12 · 9×9 hard 12 · 12×12 medium 20 · 12×12 hard 12 · 16×16 easy 8 · 16×16 medium 8 · 16×16 hard 8
Every submission is scored on it as it comes in. Your best score here is your place on the live leaderboard.
6×6 hard 40 · 9×9 medium 60 · 9×9 hard 60 · 12×12 medium 100 · 12×12 hard 60 · 16×16 easy 40 · 16×16 medium 40 · 16×16 hard 40
Larger, and used once: after the end, each participant's best submission is scored on it, and that decides the final ranking and prizes.
Why two hidden sets? See the note on the leaderboard.

Difficulty
Difficulty is how many cells are given. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, checked by two independent solvers. "Simple deduction" means repeatedly finding a cell that has only one symbol left, or a symbol that has only one place left in a row, column or box.
| Level | Cells given | What it usually takes |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | About 60% | Simple deduction, on every grid size. |
| Medium | About 45% | Simple deduction up to 12×12; 16×16 ones often need more. |
| Hard | As few as possible: clues are removed until taking away any other one would allow a second solution | From 9×9 up, usually more than simple deduction: tracking candidates, eliminations or trying a value and backing out. |
Cells given by grid size
Easy and medium are exact. Hard varies from puzzle to puzzle; these ranges are from a sample of generated puzzles.
| Grid | Boxes | Easy | Medium | Hard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4×4 (16 cells) | 2×2 | 10 | 8 | 4–5 |
| 6×6 (36 cells) | 2×3 | 22 | 17 | 9–11 |
| 9×9 (81 cells) | 3×3 | 49 | 37 | 22–26 |
| 12×12 (144 cells) | 3×4 | 87 | 65 | 45–53 |
| 16×16 (256 cells) | 4×4 | 154 | 116 | About 100–110 |
